We’re delighted to announce that PlayerLayer will be the official kit supplier to the Marshall Islands Soccer Federation.
PlayerLayer began by making custom team uniforms for some of Britain’s most prestigious Universities. Historically, these institutions often created and moulded the sports we know and love today. We are excited to be working alongside their co-founder, Roderick Bradley, to design the first ever Marshall Islands soccer kits.
PlayerLayer are passionate about using sport as a driver of cultural change, to create bonds and in breaking down barriers. Most importantly, using sport to send a powerful message around the environmental crisis.
They are selective in the organisations they work with. For several years now they have been the official supplier to EFL side Forest Green Rovers (the worlds greenest sports club), providing them with an eco-kit made from Bamboo Charcoal.
Head of Marketing Matt Webb had this to say about the announcement, “We are delighted to officially reveal PlayerLayer as our official kit supplier. Since the moment we first met with them we have been struck by how passionate they are about our project, and they are determined to see us succeed.
It is vital that the Soccer Federation partners with organisations that share the same values as us, in particular with regards to the climate crisis and those who are similarly determined to take positive and meaningful steps. PlayerLayer have a great reputation in the UK where they have been the official kit suppliers to Forest Green Rovers (the greenest football club in the world) for several years, and have shown their innovation through eco-shirts and clothing.”
Work is already underway to design the inaugural Marshall Islands Soccer Federation jersey, something which Matt is excited to see come to fruition, “We are currently working on the National Team jersey and it’s a fabulous opportunity for us to put the Marshall Islands on the map. We want to ensure we represent the nation by embracing both the rich history and culture with a slick and modern approach.
THE LAST COUNTRY ON EARTH TO NOT HAVE AN INTERNATIONAL TEAM, UNTIL NOW…..
Marshall Islands X PlayerLayer
The Marshall Islands is a small nation of just 60,000 people in the Pacific Ocean, it may look like a tropical paradise, but the nation is facing an existential crisis. If global temperatures rise by more than 1.5 degrees then some of the islands may become uninhabitable. This could happen as soon as 2030. There is no time to lose. With a goal to eventually become FIFA members, the MISF are building a coaching curriculum for school children on the islands, recruiting eligible males and females for the national team, creating both men’s and women’s National Soccer Leagues.
PlayerLayer have joined the mission and will support the project with kit, connections and design support. The design process is underway and will involve authentic Marshallese creatives.
This project is not only about enabling the Marshall Islands to compete internationally, but using soccer as a means to raise awareness of the plight facing our nation. The Marshallese are a strong, proud and adaptable people, and we can’t wait to work alongside PlayerLayer to create striking and unique playing kit and apparel that reflects the rich cultural heritage of the Marshall Islands.”
Roderick Bradley, Co-Founder at PlayerLayer, “The design and product development process is going to be really fun, look out for some kit that we think can help change the game. The design needs to be right, it will help encourage buy in and support from people all over the world, it will visually represent the Marshall Islands Football Project..”
There is currently a #FirstKit competition being hosted by the Soccer Federation on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, where some selected designs will be chosen and local artists can then help to create the final designs.
